Stegosaurus

This Stegosaurus has a one piece body with sewing only required for the spikes.

You will need:
  • 3mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • DK Yarn (approx. 100m)
  • Black embroidery thread or 4mm safety eyes.
  • Soft toy filling
Stitches and abbreviations used:
(I am from England but use US crochet terms)
  • MC - Magic circle/ring (sc unless otherwise specified)
  • Ch - Chain
  • SC - Single crochet
  • Inc - Increase stitch (2 single crochets into one stitch)
  • Dec - Decrease stitch (single crochet 2 stitches together)
  • ST - Stitch
  • FLO - Front loop only
  • BLO - Back loop only
  • SLST - Slip stitch
  • FO - finish off
  • PC – Popcorn stitch – This pattern uses a 3sc pc stitch for each of the toes
Other things to note....
  • This is worked in continuous rounds. It is helpful to use a stitch marker to keep track
  • The number in ( ) at the end of each round indicates the total stitch count for that round
  • *  * indicates repeated series of stitches
  • Use invisible decreases for a neater finished product
  • Stitches in [ ]  are worked into one stitch
  • Remember to stuff the product little and often as you work

Do you have approx sizes for how big this turns out? It looks great!

sorry I keep neglecting to write that. Using DK yarn and and 3mm hook, he is about 17cm from head to tip of tail and 10cm high from feet to tallest spike. I hope this helps :)

Thank you for this easy to follow pattern for my first amigurumi project! One note: on round 33 there are an extra 3 sc at the end. This would go into the next round since there are only 36 stitches in the round before and no increase indicated.

I am relatively new to crocheting but I'm struggling with how to crochet the legs into the body as I go. I either end up with them facing the wrong way or inside out. Do you have any extra instructions or clearer pictures? I didn't find the elephant ones helpful for figuring it out. Sorry it's probably my inexperience.

Very cute pattern, but hard to follow at times. Beware that Rounds 32 and 33 appear to be wrong. Both rounds should start with 24sc (into the body) and end with 3sc (into the body) with the back legs attached in between. As written, the back legs will be off center and Rnd 33 would have 39 sts which it does not.

I have finished the body and will start on the spikes soon. I learned popcorn stitch! In missed your instructions and made them with 5 dc, and they are comical. Thank you so much for this fabulous pattern. Row 39 should be x 2, I think .

Would you have a pattern or video for a triceratops please

Fun pattern! Tip for legs: with head facing you, align top open edges of leg with working edge (belly), toes pointing down and facing dino body, sc the front of leg R20 (think shin) then R21is the back of leg (think calf). I used a 5 weight yarn with 6.5mm hook and 12mm safety eyes. Wish I could post my photo to help!
