Ralph the Koala
There are two options for the ears for this guy. If giving to a child, be cautious of using the fluffy ears.
You
will need:
- Yarn needle
- Soft toy filling
- 6mm safety eyes
- 3mm crochet hook (This pattern can be made with any size yarn and hook. I recommend using a hook 1 size smaller than suggested on the yarn)
- DK Yarn – Approx. 120m
- Main colour - Wendy Fleur DK – Stephanotis (Grey)
- Second Colour - Wendy Fleur DK – Jasmine (Cream)
- Small amount of black DK yarn.
- Optional – Luxe Fur King Cole – Silver Fox (for fluffy eared version)
Stitches
and abbreviations used: (US terminology is used)
- MR - Magic ring (sc unless
otherwise specified)
- Ch - Chain
- SC - Single crochet
- Inc - Increase stitch (2
single crochets into one stitch)
- Dec - Decrease stitch
(single crochet 2 stitches together)
- YO – Yarn Over
- ST - Stitch
- SLST - Slip stitch
- R – Round or Row
- FO - Finish Off
Other things to note....
- This is worked in continuous
rounds. It is helpful to use a stitch marker to keep track.
- The number in ( ) at the end
of each round indicates the total stitch count for that round.
- * * indicates repeated
series of stitches.
- Use invisible decreases for a neater finished product. This is done by using the FLO of the stitches while making the decrease.
- Changing colour - complete the stitch before the colour change by working the last yarn over of the stitch with the new colour.
- Stitches in [ ] are worked into one stitch.
- Remember to stuff the product little and often as you work.

FO – leaving yarn tail. Sew patch onto the outer ear
lining up the open edge of the outer ear to the flat side of the inner ear. Assure you only sew through one side of the
outer ear to stop the cream yarn showing on the back.
|
Assembly:
Sew arms to front sides of the body where the neck is. There
should be approx. 5st between the two.
Sew legs to either side of the body in a seated position between
R 35-37. Have the MR part of foot facing forwards and the decreased stitches
from R 8-9of leg pointing upwards.
Sew ears to either side of the head at approx. R 5-15.
Nose – Black
Starting between the eyes at approx. R 10, embroider the
nose. Start sewing over approx. 2-3 stitches and increase to 4-5 stitches as
the nose gets wider in the middle, before narrowing in again at the bottom. The
nose ends approx. R 15.
(R 10-11 will cover 2-3 stitches, R 12-13 will cover 4-5
stitches, R 14-15 will cover 2-3 sticthes)
Fluffy ears – Silver Fox
Join yarn to the
edge of the outer ear and sc evenly around entire edge.

Love the fluffy ears; really makes it look like a koala. Can't wait to start this project ~ must finish three others first!! Thanks for a cute pattern.
Can I ask what an estimate of the finished size is of your pattern example please?
I need some help with the ears they outer ear seems so large compared to the inner ear and it is coming out way to cup shaped not flat
